Upcoming Pieces.

About my two new endeavours.

So. I am currently working on two new pieces, one I have had planned for a long time, and one that seemed to spring to life instantaneously about a week ago.

The first piece is a four-movement orchestra piece entitled ‘The Last Ride of a Salem Witch’. Which tells the story of a witch who, whilst flying through a clear autumn sky, searching for a missing ingredient in her latest concoction, alarms the local people who call for the local sheriff to shoot her down. The piece is growing many interesting features, there are some pretty dark string chords, and a strange intertwining use of Bassoon and Contrabassoon. It is fraught with imagery too, with bubbling potions, harvest moons and a creepy witch’s lair.

Music to me, importantly, has to be symbolistic of either an idea or a story. This is what I strive towards when composing, if I don’t give you a story or image through my music, then I am not doing my job properly (and I apologize :/)

The second piece, keeping with the weird and dark, is a seven part sonata for solo piano entitled ‘The Desert of Ghosts,’ to which I am currently writing the fifth part. Again another piece fraught with imagery of the weird and mystical, in which there is a whacky dance of ghosts, we traips through miles of sand, and we meet an angel at an oasis.

Hopefully, both The Last Ride and The Desert of Ghosts will be available to buy soon. Happy Halloween (for when it arrives)

Andrew
